MISSION – To build strong, sustainable, energy efficient structures that promote human and environmental health.
BACKGROUND – Patrick Ibert, a licensed engineer and sustainability proponent, created Green Door Construction in 2006 to contribute to the rebuilding of a stronger and more sustainable Gulf Coast region. When his father’s ancestral home was destroyed by a neighborhood fire just one week after Hurricane Katrina, Ibert felt compelled to build innovative structures, which can withstand the hazards typical to Southeast Louisiana such as termites, fire and hurricane force winds.
Completed projects such as the Outdoor Classroom at the Samuel Green Charter School and the Ibert ancestral home in New Orleans’ Lower Garden District, utilize sustainable materials including aerated autoclaved concrete (AAC) and weathering steel; and innovative technologies such as solar water heaters and photovoltaic and green roofs. While these structures boast innovative materials and design, they honor the architecture and history of Southeast Louisiana. For this reason, Green Door Construction is one of City Business’ 2008 Innovators of the Year.
